Doors Open Toronto – Part 2 – Toronto City Hall

This year the headquarters for Doors Open was located at the Toronto City Hall.  For Doors Open, Toronto City Hall officially opened their brand new rooftop garden.    Here is a small blurb from the City of Toronto website:

From concrete to living garden, the Toronto City Hall podium roof, where visiting dignitaries were once welcomed at the “front door” of the Council Chamber, will be reopened as the city’s largest, publicly accessible green roof garden at this year’s Doors Open Toronto.  Approximately 3,250 m2 (35,000 square feet) of concrete on the podium roof has been transformed into living vegetation to reduce the building’s environmental impact and for the year round enjoyment of Torontonians and visitors to the city.
New landscaped gardens, a courtyard framing the Council Chamber, a podium terrace, and new walkways provide unique views from this urban oasis in the heart of the city. A diversity of plant species, grown regionally, has been selected for the City Hall podium roof for their seasonal colour and ability to withstand difficult rooftop conditions.

I took a few photos, but overall wasn’t very impressed with the garden.  It wasn’t very colourful and looked like a lot of organized weeds.  But maybe I’ve been spoiled by all the wonderful colours in my grandmothers beautiful rose garden this year.

Here are the photos anyways:

More to come soon in Doors Open Part 3.
