Surfers Paradise & Byron Bay

Today Chantelle, Reid and i got up really early and drove down the gold coast to see two of the most famous beaches in Oz. We started with Surfers which is just over an hour way from Brisbane. The highway had many beautiful murals along the way to Surfers. The murals showed various traits of Australia, such as their sugar cane crops, their wildlife like Koalas etc. They were really pretty and I think Ontario should do the same to help brighten up our highways.

Surfers was a differently layed out version of Wasaga Beach. It was a little larger in the fact that it had some high rise apartment buildings. But otherwise it felt just a seedy. The beach was nice and there were some surfers testing out the water. The Indy 300 was also happening that day and we could hear the cars racing. But we didn’t go close for a look because there were a lot of people and it was only 9am.

We arrived in Byron Bay just after noon. We walked around and explored the beach and then found a fish resto that Dominik had recommended called Mongers. It was amazing food. You are served a filet of fish of your choice in a box on top of potato wedges. I had the Jewfish with a citrus & aioli sauce. We took our lunch to the beach where we watched the surfers. It was really tasty, thanks for the recommendation Dom!

After lunch we walked down the other half of the beach and then made our way to the famous Byron Bay Lighthouse, which is located on the most easternly point of the continent. It was a beautiful place to view the entire beach from. We even saw a few whales. Nothing spectacular jumping out of the water, but we saw them coming up for air and going straight back down.

It was a wonderful last day with my Queensland friends. Tomorrow I leave for the last few days of my trip.
