The loss of a loved one

On Monday March 31st  2014 my Uncle, Craig Dickson, passed away from a short battle with an aggressive type of cancer.  As I turn to the many incredible memories of him that I have and use them to stitch up my broken heart, I am so thankful to our friends and family for their support and am overjoyed to hear how much happiness my uncle brought to their lives too.

My uncle constantly inspired me.  He was an infectiously happy man.  During my youth he was always behind a camera and I was so fascinated by it and loved the photos that he took.  I remember following him around our backyard trying to guess at what he was photographing and asking him how it worked.  He inspired my interest and passion for photography.

One visit to his house he showed me what a record was and how it worked.  I’ll never forget how cool I thought it was to see all the grooves in the black vinyl of the record, or how beautiful the album cover artwork looked.  But what I’ll always remember are the first few notes I heard that came from that record.  It was the Beach Boys, with their pure golden happy melodies and harmonies.  It inspired me to search for my own music and branch out from the radio stations that my parents played at home or in the car.  From then on music has been such a big part of my life, from the instruments I played, to the concerts I’ve rocked out to.

Thank you Uncle Craig!  I’ll keep the memories in my heart forever.
