Goodbye Melbourne
I really like the State of Victoria. I don’t care much for Melbourne, but the country side is very nice. This morning Sung and I travelled around the city and took in the sights.
We began our day at the Melbourne Observation Deck – Rialto 360. We could see all of Melbourne from there. It was only 55 floors high, but there are not many tall buildings in that city yet. Lots of construction though.
Then we rode the free tram that circles the city center which has been operating since the early 1930’s. We stopped off at Federation Square which has the BMW atrium. It is an interesting building architecturally.
We continued by Tram to Fitzroy Gardens where We visited Captain James Cook’s parents cottage. It was originally from England and purchased by a guy in Melbourne. He had it shipped to Melbourne piece by piece and then rebuilt. It was interesting to see how simple and small the cottage was.
Then we travelled to the Old Melbourne Galo where the famous Australian bandit Ned Kelly’s death mask is on display. But we didn’t go in. It as simply too expensive.
We continued to the Victoria Market which is basically a very large farmers market style place where they sell everything from food to clothing and nicknacks. We had lunch there nd continued on our way back to the Hostel. We walked through the big shopping center/mall called the Mebourne Central. It is six stories and over 600 shops.
It was a really fun morning/early afternoon. Thanks Sung for showing me around. I hope the rest of your trip goes well.
I’m waiting in the airport for my flight to Bribane. I’m looking forward to seeing Chantelle & Reid and a new city.
