The magical look of frost
I honestly love winter! I love snowboarding, snowshoeing and photographing everything coated in white fluffy snow. Aside from the sports I really enjoy how winter can make normal every day objects look magical. This past weekend I was delighted to find that there was a beautiful coating of frost on the screen door. It looked so magical that I grabbed my camera to snap some shots.
But what exactly is Frost? According to Wikipedia Frost is the solid deposition of water vapor from humid air. It is formed when the temperature of a solid surface is below the freezing point of water and also below the frost point. The size of frost crystals varies depending on the time they have been building up and the amount of water vapor available. Frost crystals are translucent, but scatter light in many directions, so that a coating of frost appears white.
