Day two – Sydney Afternoon

Day two – Sydney Afternoon

Yippee the rain has stopped!  I took the Cityrail (subway) to Circular Quay and walked over to the Museum of Contemporary Art.  It’s a large building and currently has a free exhibit on showcasing mostly digital media by local artists.  It was pretty cool.  One really exciting bit is that in the Museum store I found  book called “Graffiti Women” by Nicholas Ganz.  In it’s pages was EGR, the Toronto artist that created my custom painting for me.  It was fun to see a piece of Toronto all the way across the world.  And as the Auzzies say “good on her” for having exposure aross the world.

At 5pm (3am Toronto) I took a break from my walking an wrote in my travel journal, since I didn’t have my lappy with me.  Here is what I wrote:

I’m taking a break from exploring the harbor area before I enter the Rocks nieghbourhood.  I’ve found some nice shaded stairs to rest, since thee rain has stopped and the sun is hot.  I’m sitting basically inbetween the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.  It’s a beautiful sight.  The sun is starting it’s slow decent.  People are walking home from their day at school or work.  it’s interesting to see people walking around with purpose, the way I imagine I might look when I’m back home and rushing from place to place.  I can’t help but wonder if they realize how beautiful thier city is.  Or do they take it fo granted because they see it every day the way I do with Toronto?

An old school sea plane just flew overhead and an elderly lady  to my left is trying to lure a seagull to her with a empty hand, she has a look in her eyes that makes me think that she wants the seagull for dinner.  I’m getting pretty hungry and feeling tired.  I didn’t realize how tired until after I’ve been sitting for a few minutes.  I guess this is jet lag, hopefully it doesn’t last.  Time to explore the Rocks and then hopefully meet up with Erik for dinner.

Oh I’m also wondering while sitting here…how does the Opera House stay so clean looking?  The tiles don’t look aged/yellowed/dirty/sunstained at all.  How come?
