Gavin Rossdale Live

This weekend my sister and I saw Gavin Rossdale perform live at the Danforth Music Hall.  For those who don’t know, Gavin Rossdale first showed up in North America in the 90’s as the lead singer of the grunge band Bush.  Their breakout album “Sixteen Stone” contains hits such as “Machinehead”, “Glycerine” & “Everything Zen”.  I played that album endlessly.

The opening act was Suzy McNeil.  She was a generic pop vocalist that didn’t know what to do with herself on stage other than “accidentally” flash the crowd repeatedly with the shirt she tried to pass off as a dress.  I wasn’t impressed.

Gavin and his band played a great mix from his catalog.  It was a combination of the sappy new “Wanderlust” solo album tracks, merged with some hits from his second band attempt called “Institute”.  Last but not least they played some faves from “Bush”.  I was lucky enough to spot the set list on the audio board below our center balcony seats and took a photo.

The venue wasn’t too bad.  It’s an older place that I never even knew existed.  It needs a little bit of TLC, a new paint job etc, but otherwise there isn’t a bad seat in the house.  The seats are cushioned, with lots of leg room.  It’s definitely more comfortable than other old music halls like Massey Hall.  But they were clearly having audio and mic level issues that night.

Overall the concert gets a 7.5 out of 10 for me.  For Gavin’s great energy, his interaction with the crowd, the song choices and the crowd enthusiasm.

Here are some photos from the show (from my 3.2 mega pixel point and shoot)
