Doors Open Toronto – Part 4 – The Redpath Sugary Refinery
This is the final posting for Doors Open Toronto 2010. The last stop of my Doors Open day was at the Redpath Sugary Refinery. It’s where I learned the difference between white sugar & brown sugar (they are both white sugar, only the brown sugar is mixed with a bit of molasses). I also learned a lot about the different types of sugar and how it’s made. It was a very fun and the most informative tour of the day.
Here is a link to the story behind the Redpath Sugar Refinery: http://www.redpathsugars.com/RedpathSugarStory.php
Here a few of my photos of the Refinery:
These were taken in the Redpath Museum, which is located at the refinery.
Queen Elizabeth at the grand opening of the refinery.
The shoots containing the conveyor belts that transfer the sugar in it’s various states from process to process.
Inside the raw sugar warehouse.
Pushing the raw sugar towards the conveyor belt.
That concludes this years Doors Open postings. I really enjoyed the different places I had the opportunity to explore and I look forward to next year.
