Sightseeing – Conrads Beach, Nova Scotia
Last September my husband and I were visiting family in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We took a day trip out to the Lawrencetown area and spent an afternoon at a place called Conrads Beach. It was a beautiful and magical afternoon.
It was warm, sunny and breezy when we arrived at Conrads Beach. The colours of the grasses and weeds were so saturated and vibrant from the sun bouncing off of them. I just loved the wooden boardwalk that guided you through the fields and marsh area from the parking lot to the beach.
Conrads Beach is absolutely beautiful. It is a beach that has it all, smooth sands, grassy nooks to hide from the wind, pebbles and rocks to collect or walk along, large open areas for beach activities like kite flying, picnicing & sun tanning. We were told it’s also a great place to surf when the tide is right.
While we were exploring the beach the wind suddenly got very damp and the sunlight seemed to dull, as if someone had put a filter in front of it. We looked to the west and saw a large fog rolling in covering the beach and surrounding area. It was beautifully eerie.
I absolutely loved Conrads Beach and I hope I have the chance to visit it again one day soon.
Conrads Beach is home to Piping Plovers, a small sand-colored, sparrow-sized shorebird that nests and feeds along coastal sand and gravel beaches.
